Weird Al at the State Fair! Lots of fun! Minimal whining by the time we got to the concert. Moderate amounts before that.

Yesterday was errands and swimming and gaming.

Today, Tami, Ed and the niece came over to swim before lunch, along with one of Kate's friends.

In the afternoon we went to the State Fair. We went a little early and looked at exhibits. There was one exhibit on Animation, which had displays by major animation studios, along with short videos and trailers. That was popular with the kids (especially being in the air-conditioned indoors). They also liked the videos. There was a large statue of Po from Kung Fu Panda, doing a kick and punch. Kate and Josh imitated the pose and we took their pictures. Cute!

We went to get dinner, and that's when Al discovered that he'd lost the tickets for the Weird Al concert. Sniff!

Fortunately, technology was our friend and we were able to get them replaced. Yay!

As concerts are wont to be, it was quite loud, and we had forgotten earplugs. Bad parents!

Even though the kids didn't know all the songs he did (and he didn't do some of their favorites), they were quite pleased. He ended with The Saga Begins and Yoda, which was great. Overall, it was a win.

I couldn't talk the kids into getting fair food, so we did not get a fried Twinkie, fried Oreo, or chocolate covered bacon (let alone a fried scorpion). But we did get a funnel cake.

Getting out of the parking lot took forever, but we did get home before midnight. I'm glad they moved the fair up to earlier in the summer so it's before school starts. The weather was great, too. It was 96 when we arrived in the afternoon, but it was down to 72 when we left. It was hot at first, but not unbearably so, and it was very nice later on. Wacky summer weather.
