We finished our first week of swim lessons today. I think it's somewhat insane to sign kids up for 9 am swim lessons, since it means that we need to have three kids fed, put in swimsuits, sunscreened and packed in the car so that we can leave around 8:30 am. Although I suppose it's good practice, since school is starting in just a few more weeks (Argh! Where did my summer go?). But bleah, it's no way to spend some of the last weeks of vacation. And today, the van claimed that it was 85 degrees at 8:30 when we were driving to the pool. Since I get to wait on a concrete pool deck while they swim, I was relieved to be finished by 9:30. Friday at swim lessons is usually Slide Day, but they didn't go down the big slide. Instead they played in the Play Pool. I wonder why they didn't do the slide this time. Maybe they'll get to do it next week.

Kate was quite sad, yesterday and today, because Josh suddenly decided that he was too old to walk through the Women's shower area with me and Kate to get to the pool. Instead, he wanted to go with Robert through the Men's room. Kate was quite sniffly about that.

When we came out, as I was putting Josh in his carseat, he yelled out, "Ouch! You *hurt* me!" I asked what had happened. Had I poked him, pinched him, scraped him, burnt him with a hot car seat buckle? And he just responded with, "You hurt me!" I sighed in frustration, and Robert said, "Well, he's just not a descriptive toddler."

When Robert took his goggles off, he asked if he had rings around his eyes. He's been asking this all week. I told him that he had rings around his eyes, but not to worry because it looks cute. So now every day he asks about the rings, and asks if it looks cute. Today, when he asked how it looked cute, Josh piped up, "It's soooo adowabow!" Sometimes he is a descriptive toddler.

For extra bonus fun, I made coffee and packed it in the carafes before we left for swim lessons. We came home and Kate and Josh changed clothes while I packed up the coffee, coffee supplies, camp chairs, snacks, kids' drinks and crafts for Moms' group at 10. We were only 15 minutes late, and we were the second family there. Eventually we ended up with 9 moms and 18 kids. It was quite a madhouse. But it turned out well. We went through two coffee cakes, a package of cookies, four boxes of Fruit roll-up things, and several juice boxes, bottles of water, and coffee. I brought out some sun-catchers for the kids to paint. That went pretty well, and nobody got really messy, which was good because I don't think it was washable paint. Then we cleaned up the room and took the kids outside to play at the fish playground. It felt really hot, although the minivan claimed it was only 98 degrees when we left. It felt a lot hotter than that.

After lunch, I let the kids play outside with the turtle wading pool. I also turned on the sprinklers so that they could run through them. They had a great time, so I let them stay out past Josh's usual quiet time. When we did bring him in, he melted down. Poor little thing. I hate to make him come in at the normal time, since it doesn't give him much time to play, but he was having so much fun. He yowled, then had a long nap, so he was really tired out.

Robert and Kate started their next round of swim lessons today. I misunderstood the schedule, and they don't offer a shortened version of this class. But since we know Kate's soccer schedule, I can now go about scheduling the rest of this semester.

After dinner, Josh walked up and pointed to me. "You are chopped wiver!" Thanks, I told him, dryly. "You welcome!"

Catching up..
